New Technology Equals Better Crowns
At Alder Dental, we have a variety of crowns to meet your needs and match your smile seamlessly. We have all porcelain crowns, which are easily the most aesthetically pleasing option but are best used towards the front of the mouth. We also offer porcelain crowns that have been fused to metal. These crowns are based in metal but baked in porcelain so that your teeth appear appealing and natural while being provided with the strength that they need. Porcelain fused to metal crowns can be used in any part of your mouth without the stress of how it will look if they are seen. Finally, we offer gold crowns for your back teeth, where they are less likely to be seen. Gold crowns tend to be the most comfortable crowns available because they match the shape and size of your teeth naturally. In addition, your gums and tissues accept gold crowns easily, which means your recovery time is minimized.
The Ins and Outs of Dental Crown Treatment
When you come in for a dental crown procedure, we will break up the process into two, quick and painless appointments. In your first appointment we will take impressions of your teeth. These impressions will be used to mold a custom, temporary crown to fit your smile perfectly. We will leave this temporary crown on for about two weeks while we design your permanent crown in our dental laboratory. Once the permanent crown comes in, we will remove the temporary crown and replace it with the permanent crown.
During both procedures, we will numb your tooth, ensuring your ultimate comfort and ability to stay pain free throughout the appointment. While the tooth is numb, we will get the tooth ready for a crown by gently removing decay that may have set in. We will also reshape the surface of your tooth so the crown will fit on smoothly. Your temporary crown will be applied with temporary cement. We may ask you to bite down so we can see whether or not you are biting naturally and are comfortable while doing so.
Two weeks later you will arrive for your second appointment. During this appointment your temporary crown will be removed. We will smoothly wash away any residue off of your tooth before we move on to the final, exciting step of adding your new crown. The custom crown will be added to your tooth with care and accuracy so you can enjoy a comfortable, natural bite.
